With Hydroponics, only plants are grown without soil. In Aquaponics, Fish and plants are grown in a “near-closed” recirculating system where the nitrogen excreted by the fish become the nutrients that feed the plants. No fertilizers or pesticides/herbicides are used in Aquaponics.

Most aquaponic systems today are used to raise Tilapia and Barramundi fish as well as veggies and herbs such as lettuce, cucumber, tomato, basil and rosemary.

Can fish and plants be grown on Mars?

We don’t know yet but there is water and sunlight on Mars so we should be able to grow fish and plants (in enclosed, protected environments). The Terra-Mars mission is to develop a state-of-the-art aquaponic system that can be used anywhere on Earth, the Moon or Mars.

Why does Terra-Mars want to develop Theme Parks?

Terra-Mars wants to develop Space Exploration Theme parks to showcase the different technologies that are being developed for the colonization of the Moon and Mars.

When will people be going to Mars?

SpaceX intends on sending the first colonists to Mars in 2026. NASA aims to have astronauts going to Mars sometime in the 2030s. China and other countries may also have Mars bound programs.

Is there currently life on Mars?

Hard to say at this time; there appears to be nothing alive on the surface but there may be simple lifeforms such as bacteria below the surface… definitely no little green women or men!
